Heated Grips, Heated Seats & Electric-Visor Helmets: A Canadian Buyer's Guide for Ski-Doo, Can-Am & Spyder Riders

Which Heated Accessories Are Worth It?

Every Canadian rider knows the moment. You're forty minutes out on the trail, the thermometer on the dash says -22°C, and your thumb stopped feeling the throttle ten minutes ago. Being tough doesn't fix that. Heated gear does.

If you only buy one heated accessory, make it heated grips: warm hands are what keep you riding safely and in control. Next comes an electric heated visor for snowmobilers, which stops fogging completely, then a heated seat for long days and passengers. This guide covers heated accessories for Ski-Doo snowmobiles, Can-Am Outlander ATVs and side-by-sides, and Can-Am Spyder, Ryker and Canyon riders stretching their season into late fall, and tells you exactly which part fits which machine.

Our team rides Ontario trails from Muskoka to the Haliburton Highlands, so these recommendations come from real cold days, not a spec sheet.

Electric-Visor Snowmobile Helmets: Oxygen, Advex and Exome Compared

An electric heated visor has a thin heating element built into the lens and plugs into a 12V outlet on your snowmobile with a coiled cord. The heat stops fog and frost from forming on the inside of the shield, which is the most common reason trail riders lift their visor, and a lifted visor at -20°C is how you get frostbitten cheeks.

BRP names its electric-visor helmets with the word Radiant, so "Exome Sport Radiant" means the Exome Sport shell with a heated electric visor. DOT means the helmet meets the U.S. Department of Transportation standard, and DOT/ECE means it also meets the European ECE standard, which is a stricter test.

Entry: Ski-Doo Exome Sport with Heated Visor

The Ski-Doo Exome Sport with heated visor is the most affordable way into a fog-free ride. It's a DOT-certified full-face helmet with a dual-lens heated shield, and it's the helmet we recommend for trail riders who want the fog fix without the premium-shell price.

Mid-range: Ski-Doo Oxygen and Oxygen Flow

The Ski-Doo Oxygen family is built around BRP's lightweight M-FORGE composite shell. It's noticeably lighter on your neck after a full day, and it has better ventilation for aggressive riders who work up a sweat in deep snow. The Ski-Doo Logo Oxygen is the lightest Oxygen BRP has made, and the Oxygen Flow adds a more aerodynamic shape.

Premium: Ski-Doo Advex Sport

The Ski-Doo Advex Sport sits at the top of the lineup and is certified to both DOT and ECE. It's the helmet for riders who put a lot of kilometres on every season and want the best protection and features BRP offers.

Ski-Doo Heated Visor Kits and Passenger Heat

Most Ski-Doo sleds already come with heated driver grips and a heated throttle lever. What they often don't have is a heated visor outlet where your electric-visor helmet plugs in. The Ski-Doo Heated Visor Kit adds that 12V outlet, and it comes in versions for REV Gen5, REV Gen4, and REV-XM/XS/XP/XR/XU Tundra platforms, so order the one that matches your chassis.

Your passenger gets cold faster than you do, because they're not working the handlebars. The Ski-Doo Heated Passenger Visor Kit gives them their own visor outlet. LinQ Passenger Seat Heated Grips on the REV Gen4 1+1 seat give them warm hands too.

Ski-Doo Heated Seats

A heated seat does more than you'd expect. Keeping your core and legs warm means your body sends more blood to your hands and feet, so everything else feels warmer too. Ski-Doo heated seats have high/low/off settings, and the Trail Wide versions add a wider cushion for more hip support on long OFSC trail days.

The Trail Wide Heated Seat with Storage is the one we'd pick for most trail riders, because you get heat and a spot for a spare pair of gloves.

Can-Am Outlander Heated Grips and Thumb Throttle

ATV riders in Ontario put their machines to work in the cold: plowing, hauling wood, ice fishing, and checking hunt camps. A lot of Outlander models don't come with heated grips from the factory, and a stock thumb throttle is a cold, hard piece of plastic under your thumb for the entire ride.

The Can-Am Heated Grips & Thumb Throttle Combo Kit fixes both. It has multiple heat settings with separate control over the grips and the thumb warmer, so you can run hot hands without cooking your thumb. It fits Outlander G2, G2L and G2S models, with separate versions for 2019–2021 and 2022 and up, so choose your model year at checkout.

Two-up riders on an Outlander MAX shouldn't forget the passenger. The Can-Am Heated Passenger Grips & Visor Outlet replaces the stock passenger handles with heated ones and adds a 12V outlet for an electric-visor helmet. There are versions for G2 and G2L MAX models and for G3 models.

Side-by-side owners can add a Can-Am Heated Visor Outlet so their helmet plugs straight into the vehicle. Use the Can-Am Heated Accessories Wiring Harness to power heated seats and other heated add-ons.

Can-Am Spyder, Ryker and Canyon: Heat for Shoulder-Season Riding

Three-wheel riders in Ontario can often ride through October and into November. The main thing ending the season early is the cold, and heated gear on your Can-Am On-Road machine can add weeks of riding on both ends of the year.

For the Can-Am Spyder RT 2020 and up, the Heated Driver Seat keeps the stock seat's shape and adds built-in heating. The matching Heated Passenger Seat keeps your co-rider comfortable too.

Can-Am Canyon owners can add Canyon Heated Driver Grips, with the heat control built into the grip, and the Canyon Comfort Seat with heat. Together they make the Canyon a much more practical fall touring machine.

Ryker riders on 2022 and newer models can fit the Can-Am Ryker Heated Driver Grips. The integrated button lets you change the heat level without taking your hand off the bar.

Small Cold-Weather Upgrades That Punch Above Their Price

Not every cold-weather fix needs a heating element. Here are three accessories we recommend all the time because they solve a specific cold-riding problem for not much money.

Ski-Doo Handlebar Muffs

Handlebar muffs are insulated shells that wrap around your grips and hand controls to block the wind before it reaches your gloves. Paired with your sled's heated grips, they trap that heat around your hands instead of letting it blow away. That makes a big difference on open lakes and hydro-line trails where the wind never lets up. The Ski-Doo Handlebar Muffs have a wider clear window so you can still see your controls, and they fit REV Gen5 and REV Gen4 sleds (except Grand Touring 2016 and up).

Ski-Doo Heated Cellphone Holder

Lithium phone batteries lose charge fast in the cold, and a phone that shuts off at -25°C means no trail map and no way to call for help. The Ski-Doo Heated Cellphone Holder keeps your phone warm, powered and within reach. It fits REV Gen5 and REV Gen4 sleds and works on its own, separate from the glove box extension door. For many riders it's a safety item as much as a comfort one.

Sea-Doo Heated Grips for Fall Watercraft Riders

Ontario's best glass-calm water often comes in late September and October, when the cottage crowds have gone home. The water is cold and so is the spray. Sea-Doo Heated Grips give you five heat levels on compatible GTX, GTI, GTR, RXT and RXP-X models, and they need the Sea-Doo Heated Grips Harness to install. They're a simple way to stretch your season a few more weekends before you winterize.

Can My Machine Power All of This?

Every heated accessory draws electrical current from your vehicle's charging system. Most modern Ski-Doo, Can-Am and Spyder models have enough capacity for heated grips, a heated visor and a heated seat running together while you're moving. Where riders run into trouble is idling for long periods with everything on high, for example at an ice-fishing spot or waiting at a trail junction. At idle the charging system puts out less, and the battery makes up the difference.

If you're adding several heated accessories to an older machine, or you already run lights, a winch and a phone charger, tell us what you have and we'll check whether it will work before you buy.

What to Buy First, by Rider Type

If you're building up cold-weather gear over a few seasons, this is the order we'd buy in:

  • Ski-Doo trail rider: An electric-visor helmet first (Exome Sport or Oxygen), then a heated visor kit if your sled doesn't have an outlet, then a heated seat.
  • Ski-Doo two-up rider: A heated passenger visor kit and passenger heated grips before anything for yourself. A warm passenger is a passenger who wants to go riding again.
  • Can-Am Outlander work and hunting rider: The heated grips and thumb throttle combo kit first, then a visor outlet if you wear a full-face helmet.
  • Side-by-side owner: The heated visor outlet and the heated accessories wiring harness. Those two unlock everything else.
  • Spyder, Ryker or Canyon rider: Heated grips first, then a heated seat. These two add the most riding weeks in October and November.

What Does Heated Gear Cost?

Here's roughly what heated accessories cost in Canadian dollars:

  • Under $100: Ski-Doo heated visor kits, heated passenger visor kits, and the Can-Am heated visor outlet.
  • $250–$600: Can-Am Outlander heated grips and thumb throttle combo kits, Spyder, Ryker and Canyon heated grips, heated passenger grips, and entry electric-visor helmets like the Exome Sport.
  • $600–$1,000: Ski-Doo heated seats, Spyder RT heated driver seats, and Oxygen-series helmets.
  • $1,000+: The Ski-Doo Advex Sport helmet, the Canyon Comfort Seat with heat, and premium passenger heated seats.

Heated Accessories - FAQs

  • What's the difference between a heated electric visor and a dual-pane visor?

A dual-pane visor uses two lenses with an air gap between them to slow down fogging. It works well in moderate cold and needs no power. A heated electric visor, like the ones on Ski-Doo Radiant helmets, has a heating element in the lens and plugs into your sled's 12V outlet, so it stops fog and frost completely even at -30°C. For Canadian trail riding in January and February, a heated visor is the more reliable choice.

  • Does my Ski-Doo already have a heated visor outlet?

Many Ski-Doo trail and touring models come with a visor outlet, but not every model does, and a lot of performance and deep-snow models don't. If you don't see a small round 12V plug near the console, you'll need the Ski-Doo Heated Visor Kit for your chassis (REV Gen5, REV Gen4, or REV-XM/XS/XP/XR/XU Tundra). Send us your model and year and we'll confirm it for you.

  • Do Can-Am Outlander ATVs come with heated grips?

It depends on the model and trim. Some higher trims have heated grips and a heated thumb warmer from the factory, and many base and mid trims don't. If yours doesn't, the Can-Am Heated Grips & Thumb Throttle Combo Kit is a genuine BRP accessory for G2, G2L and G2S Outlanders, with separate versions for 2019–2021 and 2022-and-up models.

  • Can I plug a heated snowmobile helmet into my Can-Am ATV or side-by-side?

Yes, once you add a visor outlet. On a side-by-side, install the Can-Am Heated Visor Outlet. On an Outlander MAX, the Heated Passenger Grips & Visor Outlet kit adds both passenger grip heat and a helmet plug. After that, any BRP electric-visor helmet, such as the Ski-Doo Exome Sport or Oxygen, plugs straight in.

  • Will heated grips, a heated seat and a heated visor drain my battery?

On most modern Ski-Doo and Can-Am machines, running all three while you're moving is fine. The risk comes from long periods of idling with everything on high, because the charging system puts out less at idle and the battery has to make up the difference. Turn heat down or off when you stop, and ask us about your machine's capacity if you're adding several accessories.

  • How cold does it need to be before heated grips really matter in Ontario?

Most riders start noticing cold hands somewhere around 0°C once wind chill is added, and at trail speeds the wind chill is significant. On OFSC trails in January, air temperatures of -15°C to -25°C are common in Muskoka, Haliburton and Northern Ontario, so heated grips are close to essential. Spyder and Canyon riders often find heated grips add two to four weeks to their fall season.

  • Are BRP heated seats a direct replacement for my stock seat?

Yes. Heated seats like the Ski-Doo Trail Wide Heated Seat and the Can-Am Spyder RT Heated Driver Seat are designed as direct replacements for the stock seat on the models they're listed for. They connect to your vehicle's electrical system with the correct harness, so check the fitment on each product page or confirm with us before ordering.

  • Can I ship heated grips, seats and helmets anywhere in Canada, and do you offer financing?

Yes. We ship genuine BRP heated accessories and Ski-Doo helmets across Canada from our Oakville, Ontario dealership. You can pay over time at checkout with Shop Pay Installments, PayPal or Affirm, which helps on bigger items like a premium helmet or heated seat.

  • How do I find out which heated accessory fits my exact model?

Send us your make, model, year and VIN, and the Energy Powersports parts team will match the correct heated visor kit, grip kit or seat to your machine. Email estore@energypowersports.ca or call (905) 901-5500.
